Description

Digital talent and entrepreneurs form part of the foundation of the digital strongholds and success stories of countries and enterprises in the Baltic Sea Region. Compared to Silicon Valley, among others, we are good at producing digital talent but not as good at keeping such people in our region.

This session will explore different approaches regarding educating and working with digital talent. We may also touch upon regional differences in socio-economic systems as a precondition for developing digital talent – e.g. the Estonian start-up visa/e-residency for attracting foreign entrepreneurs.

New challenges are approaching, so PA-INNO strongly supports new projects and ideas in the field of digitalisation.

The panel discussion may touch upon such questions as:

- How can we work with talent in the BSR? How can we prepare such people for business? What experience-based insight do we have?

- Is there scope to develop a joint ecosystem to improve talent management? If so, what elements of talent management ecosystems should we design jointly?

- How can cities connect to talent producers (universities, hot hubs, etc.)?

- Is there a need for a new type of partnership (between cities, universities, hubs, etc.) for all cities to become attractive alternatives as bases for talent?

- How can we keep talent in the region and compete effectively with global leaders in talent management?

Mr Marcus Andersson, Executive Chairman and Co-founder,  Future Place Leadership AB

Marcus has been advising countries, cities, regions and clusters on talent attraction, business attraction, place branding, internationalisation and innovation, and has led a broad range of research and consultancy projects in Northern Europe. Marcus has worked for Baltic Development Forum, the Swedish Government, and the European Commission, with communication and management in policy areas such as cluster development, innovation, entrepreneurship and security policy, as well as with marketing in different positions.

Marcus holds an MA in Political Science from Uppsala University and an MSc. in Marketing, Business and Economics from Stockholm University School of Business, and has published a range of academic papers, articles, reports and handbooks on topics such as talent attraction, business attraction, cluster development and place branding.

Jarmo Tuominiemi is the Vice President of Demola Global and serving as the site manager of Demola Tampere. Jarmo has a vast experience in co-creation between university students and industry. Over the years, Jarmo has been part of developing Demola innovation hubs in 15 countries and has facilitated more than 150 co-creation projects. Jarmo has an M.Ed in adult education from the University of Tampere.

Ms Annika Ljaš (Estonia) Noontide, Tallinn Business Incubators

Annika is the Head of PR and Communications at WePower, a European startup transforming the green energy investment and trading landscape. WePower raised 40 million with an ICO for their blockchain-based green energy trading platform. Before joining WePower, Annika led product marketing and communications at a tech company Planet OS, that later got acquired by Silicon Valley’s Intertrust.

Prior to Planet OS she worked on putting her tech-savvy country on the global map. Annika helped launch the revolutionary e-Residency program at the Estonian Government's investment agency, and bootstrapped Latitude59 from a small annual gathering of founders to a proper platform for Baltic startups to share knowledge, connections, and seek funding. She also mentors entrepreneurs in Tallinn Incubator, is an active contributor to the Global Estonians podcast as well as the North Star AI community, and runs her own little marketing agency called Noontide.

Mr Dan Rosenberg, Senior Talent Acquisition Manager, Copenhagen Capacity.

Dan is heading the digital campaign efforts at Copenhagen Capacity in order to create awareness about the career opportunities in the Greater Copenhagen area and to brand the region as an attractive future career destination.

Mr Ugnius Savickas (Lithuania) BBVET project, expert and consultant of Rietavas Tourism and Business Information Centre

Ugnius Savickas, management consultant and lecturer, corporate learning designer and programme manager. During previous 15 years of private business in consulting and project management and heading ISM Executive School for three years, I had opportunity to explore many organizations and companies in terms of redesigning strategies, rethinking competitive advantage, recognizing value propositions, defining learning needs, implementing educational events and programmes. I love working in different formats from speech at the event up to experiential challenge programmes together with customer teams.

My consulting topics cover business model design and innovation, customer empathy through Design Thinking, corporate creativity, disruptive innovations, competitive advantage and critical success factors and many more covering unique business philosophy and sustainable identity.

Ms Minna Säpyskä-Aalto (Finland) BELT Project

Working as a senior specialist in the Baltic Institute of Finland Minna Säpyskä-Aalto has gained a vast and diverse experience in international project design and management. Her driving force and passion in work is a customer-driven attitude and the cooperation with people whether it is the customers, team members or other networks.  Ideation and design of new projects with multidisciplinary people is an integral part of Minna Säpyskä-Aalto´s expertise. 
Over the past three years Minna Säpyskä-Aalto has worked in the Baltic Entrepreneurship Laboratories (BELT) project with the aim to create cross-border startups and new business ideas in the Central Baltic region and assist early-stage startups in their business development. The other theme Minna Säpyskä-Aalto is very enthusiastic about is international talent attraction and retention.  In the regional International Business Powered by Talents project, in which the Baltic Institute of Finland is one of the key partners, one goal is to find new ways to connect international talents with local business.

Mr Tomasz Jałukowicz PAC Innovation

Tomasz is a chief expert and policy advisor on Baltic Sea Region and Arctic issues in the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Poland.

He has been working on innovation policy and macro-regional strategies. He has been coordinating Policy Area Innovation within EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region since 2013.

Mr Anders Bergstroem PAC Education

Anders has been working for the Norden Association in Sweden since 1986 mainly within international project development and management focusing on business internationalization and education. Besides working in the Nordic and Baltic regions, he has been involved in bilateral cooperation between Sweden and respectively Russia and Ukraine. He has been Coordinator for Policy Are Education and Horizontal Action Capacity of EUSBSR.
