On 26 August 2021, Lithuania officially took over the Presidency of the Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region from Germany. The Presidency handover ceremony took place in Berlin between Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Mr Arnoldas Pranckevičius, and Minister of State for Europe at the Federal Foreign Office of Germany, Mr Michael Roth

A. Pranckevičius thanked the German team for a successful Presidency that laid the ground for efficient implementation of the EUSBSR Action Plan and even more active cooperation of the stakeholders of the EUSBSR.

“Lithuania will continue the initiatives launched by Germany. One of the top priorities of our Presidency will be an efficient implementation of the revised Action Plan of the EUSBSR, including the use of financial assistance of the EU Interreg Baltic Sea Programme 2021-2027. It will also be a good opportunity to engage more new partner organisations in the implementation of the Strategy“ – emphasized the Vice-Minister.

A. Pranckevičius invited German colleagues to the 12th Annual Forum of the EUSBSR which will be held online from 27 September to 1 October. The main topic of the Forum will be green recovery. During the week of the Annual Forum the participants will discuss the ways the EUSBSR could significantly contribute to the recovery of the Baltic Sea Region after COVID-19 pandemic. Particular attention will be given to the inclusion of various stakeholder groups, in particular, youth, as well as to more active cross-border cooperation with a view to addressing common challenges the Baltic Sea Region face.

The Lithuanian Presidency of the EUSBSR started on 1 July 2021 and will last until 30 June 2022.

On 27 September – 1 October 2021 Lithuania will organise the EUSBSR Annual Forum. More information can be found on www.eusbsr2021.eu. Among other events, on 28 September the Forum will feature the presentation of the Interreg Baltic Sea Region Programme 2021-2027.
