Last years proved most extreme regional development scenarios seen overly optimistic. Many challenges and consequences have been brought up to the Baltic Sea Region at all levels. Coping with these challenges require immediate and flexible approach. Spatial Planning identified as a valuable mechanism through which an adaptation to various foreseeable and unpredictable needs and future scenarios can be facilitated.

Regional resilience and various aspects of security (defence, energy, food), spatial planning to address future challenges in densely and sparsely populated areas, integration of different sectors and stakeholders - these and other aspects were discussed with examples from Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Germany.
